The number is actually ink stamped inside, on the body, and is visible through the 'f' hole. I now know my ES-330 guitar - which has no back of headstock s/number - is a 2012. The Gibson folks merely directed me to the Gibson Specs which didn't really answer too many of my questions, which would have been 'year' related.

Those s/numbers can be somewhat bizarre at times - a little hard to fathom.

Result of all the legal stuff they've had to deal with in recent times? Imagine buying a new car, and not knowing what year it was made. I just feel that Gibson were more ready and willing to supply information to their valued Customers in years gone by, than they are now. Not that I care, it's a great guitar regardless of its official date of manufacture. It seems the guitar was made in 2012, so just where it was gathering dust, I can't be sure. although I have now managed - 'unofficially' and 'through' my dealer - to establish the actual year of manufacture, and a date when the guitar was shipped to Canada. I had only sent a photo of the COA with my first request.

First time they replied stating a need for 'lots' of photos, (front, back, head back and front, etc, etc), which fortunately I had, and was happy to provide them with - and still managed to stay below the max 'megas' they stipulate, plus they wanted the history of the guitar (I told them it was 'new', the first time round), history of any 'mods.', etc., etc. I have sent off twice now to the Customer Service folks, for information on my guitar.
